Al lado? Encima? Debajo? What does it all mean??? It means that you don’t speak Spanish, and that you’re confused and hungry.

Take your hunger down to Richard Sandoval’s newest restaurant, located directly al LADO (next to) one of his many other restaurants, Zengo.

Richard Sandoval was named by Bon Appetit Magazine as restaurateur of the year in 2006 and Mexico’s Toque d’Oro (Mexican Chef of the Year) in 1992 and has made a name for himself as the one of the top Latin chefs in the world. Sandoval’s restaurants all come with a Latin flair, and al LADO is no different.

The drink menu features robust Spanish and South American reds and whites, house-made sangrias and classic cocktails. If you’re not into tapas, its neighbor Zengo is a Latin-Asian fusion, complete with Latin-spiced sushi.

Sandoval has more than 30 restaurants across the globe, including ones in Dubai, Qatar and New York, but takes special interest in Colorado. His other CO restaurants include: La Sandia (by Park Meadows Mall and by North Stapleton), Tamayo (Larimer Square in downtown Denver), Venga Venga (in Snowmass Village in Aspen) and Cima (at the Westin in Avon/Beaver Creek).

al LADO offers up several events throughout the week including 50% of all wine bottles every Sunday night and happy hour Monday-Saturday between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. And every Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m., al LADO offers a chance to meet and drink with various winemaker representatives who offer insight into their brand and its wines. A $5 pour includes featured wine and bites from the bar.

With Zengo and al LADO serving up eats in our neighborhood, it’s hard to go wrong.

Salud y buen provecho!
Cheers and good eating!
